{Why POSH?}

Ever look at what is in your health and beauty products?

POSH is a pure clean

Lanolin: This is a greasy, yellow substance is extracted from sheep’s wool. When purified, it is used as a base for ointments and creams. It is also used for preserving leather and as an ingredient in varnishes and paints. Lanolin is a comedogenic or pore blocking substance. Research has shown traces of animal pesticides in lower non-pharmaceutical grades of lanolin. Lanolin can trigger eczema or dermatitis on very sensitive skin. We believe that there are better, less irritant ingredients and have chosen to be lanolin-free.

Paraben: Basically this is a preservative. The reason this is excluded in our products is because it has been found in small amounts in breast cancer patients. It also is known to mimic estrogen. There is no direct link to cancer yet, but better be safe. We use all natural preservatives. (Vitamin E is the main one)

SLS or Sulfates: SLS stands for Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This is found in most products that foam up, like many soaps, shampoos, toothpastes. SLS is commonly contaminated with dioxane, a known carcinogen. It can not be metabolized by the liver and its effects are therefore much longer-lasting. Concentrations as low as 0.5% could cause irritation and concentrations of 10-30% caused skin corrosion and severe irritation, some soaps contain up to 30% concentration which can be highly irritating. The main reason people use this is because it is cheap. SLS dissolves oil, which is great for cars and car grease, but wen used on your hands or body, it can leave them dried out and cracked. It is also well documented that it denatures skin proteins, which causes not only irritation, but also allows environmental contaminants easier access to the lower, sensitive layers of the skin. Perhaps most worryingly, SLS is also absorbed into the body from skin application. Once it has been absorbed, one of the main effects of sodium lauryl sulfate is to mimic the activity of the hormone.

Oestrogen: This has many health implications and may be responsible for a variety of health problems from PMS and Menopausal symptoms to dropping male fertility and increasing female cancers such as breast cancer, where oestrogen levels are known to be involved.

Paraffin: Paraffin is a petroleum by product. The reason it is used is because it is cheap. When paraffin is applied it prevents your skin from naturally breathing, it clogs pores, interferes with your skin's natural ability to eliminate toxins, and can lead to acne flare ups. Also, it is irritating to the skin and if used for any length of time, your skin can become dependent on it, causing chapping and dryness. It can also lead to premature aging of the skin. Basically they take petroleum, bleach it with 100% bleach, which causes toxic dioxins to build up. They then process this further with other carcinogenic solidifying chemicals, one is acrolyn. It also contains formaldehyde, vinyl chloride.

Soy: Why no soy? People with soy allergies can react to soy beauty products!

Gluten: Gluten allergy? Same as soy, if you have celiac disease, our products would work well for you with no flare ups.

All this begs the question--WHY POSH?
